In Our Image, Like Our Likeness ©

By Dr. Akiva G. Belk

This study of the weekly parsha is dedicated in the loving memory of Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Selma Saunders, may they rest in peace.

If you would like to dedicate a Parsha lesson for our cyberspace class in the memory of a dear friend or loved one, please send us a gift of any size in U.S. currency. Even the smallest gift is appreciated.

The parsha study is a lesson on the weekly portion {parsha} of the Torah specified for study by our sages. Each week of the year is assigned a particular portion for study by the Jewish people. It is an essential element of Judaism meant for the upliftment of Kal Yisroel.

Tzeh Lehm {image, semblance, form, likeness, idol} is the root word for Bi Tzahl May Nu {in Our image, semblance, form, likeness, idol}. Di Moos {form, likeness, shape, resemblance, image, figure, character, semblance, look} is the root word for Ked Moo Say Nu {form, likeness, shape, resemblance, image, figure, character, semblance, look}. Bi Tzahl May Nu and Ked Moo Say Nu are found in Genesis 1:26 where the Torah says, “And said G-d, ‘Let us make Adam in Our Image Like Our Likeness and let them rule the fish in the waters, the birds in the heavens and on animals and on all the earth and on all the creeping things the creeping things on the earth.’”

Is this really what the Torah says? NO! In fact the word “us” and “them” are both implied because Bi Tzahl May Nu and Ked Moo Say Nu are plural. Even though Bi Tzahl May Nu and Ked Moo Say Nu are plural it does not by any means require that we translate using “us” and “them”. That being the situation one must ask, ‘Then why do it?’ The point is that some texts do not jump to assumptions. What assumptions?

The word Adam which many texts translate as “man” is not plural. Why should it be? If G-d who is One creates Adam in His image, the Image of G-d which is One NOT many... then that would be normal. That would be consistent with the Hebrew text. However if G-d {plural} created Adam in His Multiple Images, as Christians / Messanics claim, then that would NOT be consistent with the Hebrew text.

In addition to this, the proper translation of Genesis 1:26 is “And said G-d, ‘Let Me make Adam in Our Image Like Our Likeness and let him rule the fish in the waters, the birds in the heavens and on animals and on all the earth and on all the creeping things the creeping things on the earth.’”

The “Our” here is in reference to the spiritual beings {malachim [angels], seraphim, cherubim,...} that occupy the celestial Kingdom of G-d. It is NOT in reference to some trinity conjecture.

The difference here is that “Me” and “him” are consistent with the Hebrew text. We know that G-d is neither male nor female. G-d is Spirit! Adam was created both as a male and as a female in the same body. G-d did NOT take a rib from Adam as many translations claim. G-d separated from Adam’s sides, his right and left sides. The Torah could have just as easily read that G-d separated from Chava’s {Eve’s} right and left sides. Essentially G-d divided them. What? Adam was both male and female. Adam had a male front and on the opposite side a female front. If you read Hebrew this is what you will observe.

This being the situation one must ask if Adam / Chava were created in the multiple images of what Christians / Messianics claim to be G-d the Father, G-d the Son {Jesus} and G-d the Spirit, then why was Jesus born only a male as opposed to Adam / Chava? Dear readers, this does not work!

In Genesis 1:26 we read G-d {plural}, “And said G-d, ‘Let Me make Adam in Our Image Like Our Likeness...’” Yet in the very next verse we read, “And He, G-d, Created.” The word Vah Yeev Raw {And He Created} is singular. If G-d were multiple images as Christians / Messianics claim, the text would have been plural. In addition to this, Genesis 2:4 clearly explains, “And He, Hashem G-d {singular} formed the man {singular} from the dust of the ground.”

In addition to this, REMEMBER ‘ADAM WAS CREATED FROM THE DUST OF THE RECENTLY CREATED GROUND!! This emphatically disproves any concept of Jesus the physical man as being eternal. Adam was formed from ground that was created! This disproves the concept that Jesus was, is and will be. WHY? G-d, not Jesus, created the earth from nothing. G-d spoke all elements into being. They were NOT preexistent! Everything in this world was formed by the spoken word of G-d! So if Jesus is the image of G-d, as Christians / Messianics claim, it was impossible for Jesus to be the physical image because G-d created the earth that Adam was made from. Since the earth did not exist before G-d then Jesus, who Christians / Messianics claim to be the physical image that Adam was created from, could not have existed either.

We continue reading, “...and He [G-d] blew into his [Adam’s / Chava’s] nostrils life and he [Adam / Chava] became a living soul.”

Chassidim, most people are not acquainted with the fact that the being G-d created was actually Adam / Chava, one being, one soul. This is where we get the concept “Soul Mate.” When G-d divided Adam / Chava they shared the same soul, mind, breath that they were created together with.

Again I would like to emphasize that there are only two belief systems created by G-d, Spirituality and Judaism. If you are not Jewish please visit:
